I was once challenged to capture the desperation of a soldier trapped in someone's else's war.
There are many stories in any war, no one is absolute in its authority or comprehensive in its ethics.
The very nature of war is dialectic; there are many strains to the sad epic unfolding before us.
This is but one of a growing collection of lyrics, cribbing off of popular songs to make commentary on an unpopular war.
Appreciate, please -- but do not enjoy too much.

War is a Roulette (a la "Life is a Highway", by Tom Cochrane)
War's like a roulette that spins on
A new friend here and an old one gone
Sometimes you help sometimes you harm
Sometimes you lose your pitching arm
There's a world of fear behind every door
Perhaps just civvies perhaps much more
Where the brave are free to shoot on sight
Come roll with me to the distant fight
We won't hesitate to break down the city gates
There'll be no one left to pray
If's war's a roulette
I want to bet the entire farm
If I'm going today
Might as well go the whole nine yards
Through all the cities and all these towns
It's not my blood yet it's all around
I hate this now like I hated it
This is like hell, this is deep shit
From Samarra to those Mosul nights
Basra town to Fallujah's lights
Knock them down, they're back again
It's not my blood yet I'm in pain
There's no prayer I can say
To make this end today
I'll wake up screaming in my sleep
Should I be a survivor

There was a distance between you and I
A misunderstanding once but now
I dare not look you in the eye
There's no prayer I can say
To make this end today
I'll wake up screaming in my sleep
Should I be a survivor
