At our own peril we sit and watch the Bush Doctrine Missile heading toward Iran. The decision has been made already - just as with Iraq but with much more at stake. Bush is a cornered rat and only the dire consequences of war will realease him from his cage.
I'm a naive ideologist but it is my belief that we must preempt imminent tragedy ourselves and I do not mean a coup or anything violent or stupid.
My hope takes the form of a formal, publicly delivered message to Iran, delivered by our greatest leaders. Leaders outside of our dangerous war machine.
"We make mistakes but we are a humble people. We don't want war. Your loud steps toward peace will be heard clearly, and with great respect, when sanity returns and the American people retake control of the Executive Office."
And to Iraq.
"You have witnessed America the bold. Soon, America the brave will arrive with food and hope. Send a clear message of peace by standing down the violence. "
If the violence and escalation can be overtly avoided think of the message to the Whitehouse.
Every time history repeats itself the price goes up.
