Just in case you haven't been paying attention, there does indeed seem to be a growing desire/movement in the blogosphere to call the MSM's blatant propaganda pieces for exactly what they are, and to back it up with solid research. Here are a few examples of sites/threads where such things are going on.
Some of these have been around for quite awhile, some are recent threads, but I will include several along with some brief descriptions of what seems to be happening.
Over at Democratic Underground we have this recent thread:
What If Dems Fought Back Against Corporate Media Shills Like Tim Russert?
which seems to be primarily Tim Russert and Telecommunications Act of 1996 focused, but looks to have a desire for research and cooperation to expose these shenanigans for what they are.
Then we have the popular thread at DailyKos
PsyOps: Walking Back the Cat which has as a primary focus an effort to "retrace the train of evidence and assumptions until the double agent, the false source or the analytic error is identified" primarily at least with respect to propaganda pieces pointing towards war with Iran, but also looking towards research and cooperation.
The Huffington Post has a couple of features:
Russert Watch where the descriptive blurb reads, ""Russert Watch" is where we take on one of the Beltway's major media players, Meet the Press' Tim Russert. Every Sunday, after the show, we'll count the bodies... and the missed opportunities."
and Eat The Press with the description- ""Eat the Press" is the Huffington Post's ongoing coverage of and commentary on the media. Hosted by Harry Shearer and his band of media critics, this is where we turn our gaze on the ever-more powerful fourth estate--keeping watch on the watchdogs."
Then we have such cooperative efforts and organizations as
Media Matters
"Media Matters for America is a Web-based, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) progressive research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media."
SourceWatch
"a collaborative project of the Center for Media and Democracy (http://www.prwatch.org) to produce a directory of the people, organizations and issues shaping the public agenda."
ePluribus Media community
"We are "dedicated to researching and exposing truth and encouraging the highest standards of ethics and journalism."
Our goal is to shine a light on government propaganda and restore the dignity and integrity of the free press, the lifeblood of democracy in America. Our objective is to enhance the vitality and effectiveness of the American news media, an institution vital to the future of this nation."
The Center for Cooperative Research
"The Center for Cooperative Research seeks to encourage grassroots participation and collaboration in the documentation of the public historical record using an open-content model."
Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting (FAIR)
"FAIR, the national media watch group, has been offering well-documented criticism of media bias and censorship since 1986. We work to invigorate the First Amendment by advocating for greater diversity in the press and by scrutinizing media practices that marginalize public interest, minority and dissenting viewpoints."
This list goes on, I'm sure. That's where you can help. Add links in the comment section.
Another suggestion: if you feel called to do this, try linking to postings which expose propaganda using keywords for the propaganda. This will help to put the debunking in view in the search engines. Example:
Iran yellow band debunking
Use tags as well in this effort.
This trend ties in well with some of my earlier posts, I think, which were designed to be expanded on and to get people started looking at the bigger picture and techniques (read: tricks and lies) being used. See, for example
