The Associated Press reports that Michael Powell's Federal Communications Commission proposes the maximum $27,500 fine against Infinity Broadcasting for a Howard Stern program that aired on July 26, 2001...
The program aired on WKRK-FM in Detroit, and a Detroit listener complained about the show. The program discussed sexual practices and techniques.
Infinity Broadcasting did not immediately return a phone call for comment.
Howard Stern is urging his listeners to vote President Bush out of office due to FCC interference with free speech. Stern's show is syndicated nationally and airs live starting at 6:00 a.m. Eastern Time from flagship station WXRK-FM New York, an Infinity Broadcasting station. Infinity is a unit of Viacom/CBS.

It saddens me that one of the FCC commissioners (and a Democrat) thought the FCC didn't go far enough. The government has no business regulating speech, in my opinion.
