A world class
idiot to lecture the nation regarding anti-globalization:
A Bush Alarm: Urging U.S. to Shun Isolationism
By DAVID E. SANGER
WASHINGTON, March 12 -- The president who made pre-emption and going it alone the watchwords of his first term is quietly turning in a new direction, warning at every opportunity of the dangers of turning the nation inward and isolationist, and making the case for international engagement on issues from national security to global economics.
I'll stop here and take a sec to point out that this NY Times piece was labeled `news analysis' and the writer (who is no reporter in my book) has a history of carrying water for the administration.
President Bush's cautions on the dangers of pulling back behind American borders -- in trade and investment, in immigration and in his effort to make the spread of democracy the signature of his second term -- first cropped up in his State of the Union address six weeks ago.
But it accelerated even before the Dubai ports deal was derailed by members of his own party, and before an unexpected uprising began among some neo-conservatives, who are now arguing that Iraq, while a noble effort, has turned into a failed mission that must be abandoned. [snip]
"We're seeing it in everything," said one of Mr. Bush's closest aides last week. "Iraq. The ferocity of an irrational argument over the ports. Guest workers. China and India."
So starting on Monday, just a few days shy of the third anniversary of Mr. Bush's order to topple Saddam Hussein, the president will begin an effort to explain his Iraq strategy anew in the changed environment of increased sectarian killings. [snip]
His new theme is different, because it is all about interdependence. Two of his aides say the near defeat of the Central American Free Trade Agreement in Congress last summer -- it passed by one vote, after arm-twisting by the president brought just enough Republicans back into the fold -- jolted Mr. Bush into recognizing a new retreat from the world by his own party.
By the time he visited India earlier this month, he argued that while American jobs were often lost to outsourcing, "you don't retrench and pull back."
He said he had to convince Americans that "a 300-million-person market of middle-class citizens here in India" would soon be buying American goods.
"If we can make a product they want, then it becomes -- at a reasonable price -- and then all of a sudden, people will be able to have a market here," he said.
Are these words from the `leader of the free world' yet another stunning example of ignorance or is he just hoping that most people are still buying the kool - aid fueled notion that our nation still makes anything, anything at all?
In the interests of brevity I have cut out most of what this writer offers as proof that Dear Leader is a `go it alone' independent kind of guy. The same guy who wrestled CAFTA through Congress by one stinking vote and hasn't lifted so much as a single finger to protect US workers from the ravages of foreign competition.
Briefing reporters on Friday about Mr. Bush's coming speeches, a senior White House official, speaking anonymously because he was describing speeches still being drafted, said Mr. Bush would answer those criticisms and "explain why we and the Iraqis must finish the job together." A year ago, Mr. Bush's allies took such statements as a given. Today, that is no longer the case.
Spin baby spin! The ever growing trade deficit itself coupled with the poorest job creation rate in the past forty years are all the proof any reasonable person needs to assess the negative impact of globalization not just within our own society but the world.
World conquest via the undisputed domination of its markets is the goal Dear Leader was installed to fight for.
Can anyone point to the `gifts' globalization has bestowed upon the workers in the economically depressed regions of the world?
Long hours, low pay, no vacation or sick time, tyrannical bosses where corporal punishment in the workplace is still common...
How about the other side of the equation, the gifts globalization bestows upon the already wealthy investor class? Are record corporate profits along with record CEO compensation the REAL benefits of globalization?
Want to don your tinfoil hat for a peek at what the future holds if these guys succeed in their quest?
It will start with the `new' employee contract...the one that requires you to live (in a barred cell to minimize sabotage) on premise and adds the job of defending the plant against the frequent attacks by `savages' (your former neighbors who wouldn't sign the contract.)
Since you no longer need a place to live your pay will be reduced accordingly. Unfortunately, meals at the company cafeteria (and you have to buy them there because the contract forbids you to leave the plant for any reason at any time) will cost you more than you make...
If, by some miracle, you manage to hook up with a member of the opposite sex and the inevitable occurs, the resultant child will, by contract, become `property' of the company.
You will be required to work a minimum of sixteen hours a day, seven days a week. Time spent defending the plant does not count as time worked and it will be your responsibility to make up for your `lost production' on your own time...
You might be wondering who in their `right mind' would agree to such a thing but it will be the only job available. If you don't agree to the terms of the contract you are free to join the (unemployed) savages.
One more small note before doffing your foil hat...you wouldn't feed the stuff served by the company cafeteria to your pet but a `captive audience' is really in no position to complain, are they...
And just one more thing...not only will the beatings continue until moral improves but your boss will now have the right to shoot you on the spot if you fail to comply with his instructions...but they won't tell you this up front...bad for recruiting.
You may now remove your tinfoil hat and breathe normally...unless you're reading this at work, then you must continue to hold your breath as the boss circles the office looking for `fat to cut'...
Um, as a sidebar, I did some poking around last night while the site was undergoing maintenance and stumbled across this excellent site that provides a terrific overview of progressivism and a clear assessment the situation currently faced by our nation...
That said, it's a little short on solutions. It's one thing to advocate change but if you aren't clear on what the end result of change is supposed to be you are inviting a disaster similar to the one that occurred shortly after our initial revolution...
Thanks for letting me inside your head,
