Joe Lieberman's latest pathetic line of attack is that Ned Lamont is a racist rich white guy. His campaign, as you have probably heard has been distributing flyers at black churches saying that Lamont is racist because he once belonged to an exclusive country club. On the other side is a picture of Lieberman with Bill Clinton which mentions Lieberman's civil rights activism. Well, guess what?
In 1992, Bill Clinton golfed at a country club with no black members. So if Ned Lamont is a racist, then by implication, so is Bill Clinton.
"Clinton has made no attempt to justify playing a round of golf during the present campaign at the Country Club of Little Rock, which has no black members; he has said it was a mistake that he will not repeat. But his explanation of why he did it sounds distressingly lame: he and his hosts were in a hurry, and it was the only place they could reach in time."

Now I don't think anyone believes for a second that Bill Clinton or Ned Lamont is racist. But Joe Lieberman has decided to use Rovian tactics to smear Lamont in a desperate bid to keep his Senate seat. According to Lieberman's logic, if you ever golfed at an exclusive country club, you are a racist. So does he think Bill Clinton is racist? Joe needs to answer that question.
Joe is not only a Republican in terms of how he talks and votes, but now also in the way he campaigns. Joe Lieberman is a disgrace. He has shown himself to be a small and petty little man. According to the Beltway establishment, Lieberman is a kindhearted man who doesn't play partisan politics but does what is best for the nation. Yet throughout this campaign he has shown himself to be an arrogant, self righteous, sanctimonious scumbag. He is willing to desert the party that helped put him where he is today and smear Ned Lamont's good name, all so he can keep power. With Joementum, it's all about him. Not the nation, his party, or his constituents: him. In 2000, he ran for re-election even though it meant a Republican would get his seat if Gore won, all so he would be better off. He continues to undermine his party on the war and other critical issues because he couldn't be bothered with how the party is doing. And now he is willing to bolt the party and risk electing a Republican to his seat and defeat for the Connecticut congressional candidates, all so he can keep his seat. I'd like to see what would have happened if Joe ran as an independent for the state Senate in 1970, if he ran for state Attorney General as an independent, if he challenged Lowell Weicker as an independent. Actually we all know what would have happened: he'd have come in dead last. Joe is where he is because of the Democratic party. And how does he reward them? He spits in their eye and dismisses them as the "most difficult part of the electorate" for him.
So Joe, when liberals and Democrats are the most difficult part of the electorate for you, you are not a Democrat. When you run a smear campaign worthy of Karl Rove, you are not a Democrat. When you threaten to bolt the party if you lose the primary, you are not a Democrat. When you equate opposition to the Republican president as treason, you are not a Democrat. When you tell rape victims that they don't have the right to emergency contraception, you are not a Democrat. When you denounce a president of your party for getting a blowjob and support a president who lied about every reason he gave for going to war, you are not a Democrat. And when you get elected to the Senate in the first place by running to the right of your Republican opponent, you are not a Democrat.
So Joe, get the hell out of our party.
