This article concerning the Yearly Kos/Bill O'Reilly controversy appeared in the NY Times and as usual the NY Times is full of right wing talking points and a right wing slant in its alleged reporting. So I'm going to rewrite the story and report on the things they have conveniently omitted.
AMERICANS RESPOND TO BILL O'REILLY'S SMEARS
Progressive, liberal, and moderate Americans are responding to Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly's recent smear of the centrist Daily Kos website by gathering a list of advertisers and urging readers to consider not patronizing their businesses.
Once a database is gathered, an organized campaign will begin, said Jim Gilliam, vice president of media strategy for Brave New Films, a company that has made videos critical of Fox News.
Representatives for Fox News Channel, which is owned by News Corp., refused comment.
The groups are responding to angry attacks by Bill O'Reilly who frequently calls any blogger who disagrees with him as "left wing" and often "cuts the mike" of any person whom he disagrees with. The controversial O'Reilly, winner of zero Peabody awards, has previously called for Al Qaeda to blow up a building in San Francisco, blamed a child for the abuse he suffered at the hands of a kidnapper, and has advocated for the immediate arrest and detainment in Guantanamo Bay of several American media figures whom O'Reilly dislikes.
O'Reilly claims that the dailykos web site is "hate of the worst order" citing a few random comments that were a trickle of the millions of comments that have appeared on the site. Anybody can post comments on a website and many of the comments O'Reilly cites were given negative ratings by members of the DailyKos community. For all we know, Bill O'Reilly himself posted the negative comments that he later referred to as hateful.
JetBlue, which had previously agreed to sponsor Yearly Kos, has withdrawn its sponsorship after O'Reilly sent a minion to shove a camera in the face of JetBlue's CEO Dave Borger.
JetBlue could have decided to be "fair and balanced" by giving advertising dollars to both YearlyKos and Fox News. Instead, Bill O'Reilly only wants JetBlue to sponsor Fox News. And in the world of Fox News, that's considered fair and balanced.
