Yesterday I posted a message on my
Everquest guild's website, encouraging my fellow gamers to donate to help victims of Hurricane Katrina. (I linked to
RenaRF's excellent diary.)
As expected, my friends responded generously, and tonight there was a reply from a wonderful lady in Charlotte, NC that I want to share with you.
So most of the time, we look at our children and go ....who are you....what are you thinking....what in the world would make you say something like that.
Well today...I had my most proud moment being a Mummy....
We are listening to the radio on the way to work and they are going on about sending 17 tractor trailers to the gulf. We had donated...but I didn't actually go...sent the husband because it was crazy traffic wise downtown. My son looks at me in the back seat and says..."Mummy are we safe here?"
Of course I told him we were. Then he says what about the people that are so sad and hurt that live in the place that the tornado on water came? I told him it was very sad, they didn't have anywhere to live and no food...etc etc...in 6 year old terms and explanation.
A few minutes later he obviously had been thinking.....He says "Mummy....ya know that money in my piggy bank that I was saving for the new CD player and the new Robotech Dinosaur?"
I said "yes...."
He says "Can I mail it to the people that don't have homes, and food, and the little tiny babies with no diapers?"
Well...gosh....it was everything I could do not to burst into tears....that my 6 year old had gotten this.....
Of course I told him Yes...and we took it to the grocery store...put it all in the coin machine and got dollars. Which I then turned into a check magically and he mailed it to the Red Cross.
At any rate....I was so very very proud....and just wanted to share it with you guys. I knew you would understand what I felt...and wanted you to know that its nice to know that the innocent little ones out there get it.
Brought a tear to this crusty old Cajun's eye.
