Thanks to some suggestions and numerous complaints about the Democratic agenda or lack there of I have decided to do a series of diaries with updates about the ever so unknown Democratic Agenda. And since there seems to be a general view that we got nothing I take it upon myself to report to you every possible detail I can muster and find until Howard Dean gets the new DNC website up that will hopefully have and "Agenda"or "Issues" section.
In the Senate:
In Short the Agenda is as follows Security, Opportunity, Responsibility. You read it load and clear, so if someone asks, theres a short and simple one line answer.
In the security department we have got a few bills such as S.12.
S.12 Targets the Terrorists More Effectively: Introduced by Senatot Biden in late January it has now about 12 cosponsors.
In short it will
Take the Fight to the Terrorists not some oil rich country and blow billions if not trillions of taxpayer money.
Cleans up the Breeding Grounds that Produce Terrorism so we don't have to deal with them later and stops them before they become a threat.
Talking Points:
- Takes the Fight to the Terrorists.
- Cleans up the Breeding Grounds that Produce Terrorism.
- Increases the Government's Accountability and Effectiveness to Counter the Terrorist Threat.
- Prevents Terrorist Attacks With Weapons of Mass Destruction.
Status:
1/24/2005 Referred to Senate committee. Status: Read twice and referred to the Committee on Foreign Relations. It's making its way through the long roads and highways of congress.
Recommendations for Action:
This does need some help and I urge all of you to contact your senator especially if that senator is a Democrat.

In the Opportunity department we have got a few bills
but the most important one is of course election protection, such as S.17.
S.17 Democracy Begins at Home: Introduced by Senator Dodd in late January it has 6 cosponsors. An effort to make voting reform a reality for Americans. Some of the best parts that will summarize this bill are Voter Verified Ballots, Election Day Registration, Shorter Lines at the Polls, Federal Election Day Holiday and much more.
Talking Points:
- Voter verified paper ballots for more election security.
- Builds a stronger more secure Democracy here at home.
- It will give everyone time to vote on election day.
- if a right winger says hes opposed to this then repeat "so your against free elections and Democracy?"
Status:
1/24/2005 Referred to Senate committee. Status: Read twice and referred to the Committee on Rules and Administration. Like S.12 its moving just very slowly and needs help and more support.
Recommendations for Action:
This bill will reform that wretched HAVA bill and like S.12 you should actively and aggressively get your senator (especially a Dem senator) to support this bill.
