Indiana Gov. Joe Kernan (D) will
announce that he is running for Governor in 2004. Kernan became the Governor of Indiana after the tragic stroke-related death of popular Gov. Frank O'Bannon (D) this past September. Before O'Bannon's death, Lt. Gov. Kernan had decided to pass on the '04 race.
For DEMs disheartened by O'Bannon's passing and recent election losses, Kernan's decision is a welcome one. Without Kernan, DEMs would have most likely lost the Indiana Governorship in 2004 for the first time in many years. With Kernan in, I'd say he is favored to win.
