So I went to my nearby Polling Place with a college buddy of mine.
We first checked in with the polling place head honcho just to let her know what we'd be doing, she reminded us of the 40 foot rule. We went around and signed just outside the 40 foot limit. Driving signs into the cold ground with no hammer is no fun.
There was a local candidate for city council trying to collect the 120 signature he needs to get on the ballot working there with us, as of when we left he'd gotten maybe 40-50 sigs, he's well on track. Unfortunately for him there are 3 students running for city council since the city council passed its assinine law that no more than 3 non related individuals can cohabitate. If we get all 3 elected we can choose the mayor, with 2 we will have a lot of influence because I believe one of the other 3 is a Republican.
We worked there for 3 hours till around 9 when we stopped to get some breakfast and head off to class.
Traffic was brisk, we met many Dean supporters, but clearly not anywhere near enough to beat Kerry at this location. We saw one Clark person. I went to get donuts and the cashier was a Deaniac. She seemed pretty down about the whole situation. her son went to Vermont for college and she's been following Dean ever since. We met the Vice President of Student Affairs, he's pretty cool. One odd lady was walking her two dogs and she talked to us briefly but as soon as she saw we had on Dean buttons she made some sort of huffy noise and refused to talk to us, oh well I'm not sure why she was so angry. We heard her dogs barking while she was voting.
We were the only campaign with any sort of presense at this location. We're gonna return there around 4 to hit the tail end of election day and from there party all night.
Compared to previous years the city council candidate said turnout was pretty high, Bush has a lot to fear in Novemember regardless of who we choose.
