This rant on the Schiavo debacle is worth reading.
Veggie Tales: Please stop torturing Terri
Let her die. Please let her die. This poor woman and her husband have suffered enough. She shouldn't be a political football. She's not your toy. Let her die.
I realize you can't bear to not torture anyone who can't speak English.
I realize you think there's some magic bullet to gain Catholic voters here.
I realize you think you can please anti-abortion lunatics by playing with her life.
But you're hypocrites:
Bush, you signed legislation that would ALLOW such deaths (only if it would save a few bucks, however). Just ask Sun Hudson's parents. And you've killed more people than any American since the Vietnam war. You even killed a death row inmate when there was evidence of innocence. You're a murderer.
Tom DeLay, you never gave a rat's ass about anyone but yourself. Now we're supposed to believe you suddenly care about Terri? Sorry, we're not buying it.
Bill Frist, you're supposed to be a doctor, what the fuck is the matter with you?
And to Terri's parents, I only hope you suffer the same fate as your daughter. You deserve it.
So, sorry, everyone, you can't support the death penalty and fight to keep Terri "alive". You can't.
And you can't be against gun control and fight to keep Terri "alive".
You can't support the war and fight to keep Terri "alive". It makes no sense.
You can't oppose gay marriage and undercut the "sanctity of marriage" by arguing her parents have more rights than her husband. Apparently marriage doesn't really mean that much to you.
You can't even be against universal health care and argue to keep Terri "alive."
People die. It's natural and it happens. We shouldn't enjoy it (talking to you, Bush), but we need to accept it. Part of being free is being free to die. What's worth more to you? Your freedom or your life? For me it's my freedom. The founders of our country would agree with me. Not today's Republicans, who have supported death in each and every case, except for when it's politically viable.
The person that was Terri died long ago. If there's any life in her, it's a life of endless, helpless suffering. It's torture and it needs to stop.
