Bush today warned that there will be increasing violence in Iraq in the run up to voting on the proposed constitution.
While it is true that milestones like the deadline for proposinng the constitution and for voting on the constitution exist, they are not themselves the cause of increasing violence. Instead, they are simply markers in the inevitable increase of violence that results from an increasingly invigorated and effective resistance to American occupation. Milestones like the Emmy awards, the Oscars and MTV Music awards are perhaps as relevant.
As in Vietnam, violence against Americans and the institutions they support will increase as long the war of occupation continues. Bush's warning is disingenuous and self serving in the extreme.
