According to
Diane Ravitch, a internationally known expert on education, our educational system under No Child Left Behind is failing. Without federal intervention, states are left up to their own set of standards which results in inflated grading on state tests to ensure that politicians who are connected to the educational system look like they are doing a good job. We are falling behind in virtually every category of academia.
We need to implement bold solutions. One idea that has previously taken hold in California and Illinois it the notion of mandatory pre-kindergarten schooling for children three and four years of age. Every child could benefit under such a system, giving the neglected a chance to get a head start that would otherwise be beyond their grasp.
It is time that we started thinking bold about education and offering our children the opportunity to be in a safe, structured program of pre-school education. With a nation whose empire seems intent on making changes around the world, I think we should start with some investments at home.
