Here we go again. So, wrapped up in moveon.org that we are totally clueless.
Yesterday, Geekesque, posted a very in your face diary called, You idiots.
Well, we are idiots. We are so busy arguing back and forth about a bullshit lame amendment, involving moveon.org, that we had two things happen yesterday.
Feingold/Reid Bill and Jena 6.
Over the hump....
The Feingold/Reid Bill, was crushed. Not much said about that. Nothing about the democratic leadership and their firebranding speeches on the floor about that one. Nope, not a peep. Because it did not happen.
Then we had an incredible thing happen, yesterday, more than 35K people went to the small town of Jena, Louisiana to protest the outrage against 6 black teens, called "Jena 6". What was uplifting about this story is that many were of all races, ethnic backgrounds and YOUNG. Makes you believe that these kids, do get it. And then it makes you see that racism is alive and well in the United States of America.
These are the two most important things that we "should have" been talking about, but we let "outside influences" take us away from what is important. Both the Feingold Bill and Jena 6 are about progressive politics and issues. But instead, all yesterday, we were caught up with the fingerpointing of what presidential candidate voted for what bogus, bullshit amendment, attached to moveon.org. And the final straw, for me, is the Democratic Leadership allowing President Bush to have his soundbite at our expense:
"I thought the ad was disgusting. I felt like the ad was an attack not only on General Petraeus, but on the U.S. Military."
"And I was disappointed that not more leaders in the Democrat party spoke out strongly against that kind of ad."
"And that leads me to come to this conclusion: that most Democrats are afraid of irritating a left-wing group like Move-On-Dot-Org — or **more** afraid of irritating them, than they are of irritating the United States military."
"That was a sorry deal."
Wow, allowing George W. Bush to have his say at our expense. Thanks, Harry Reid.
Guess what? Who cares. Both amendments were a total waste of time. It did nothing to move the dialogue on Iraq, instead, we allowed the GOP to introduce an amendment and make "firebranding speeches" about a newspaper ad. Now, is anyone with me here? Does anyone get it? As in, total waste of my taxpayers time?
I don’t know about us. We are almost as debilitated as the Republicans. We can not hold anything together, and we continue to be sideswiped at every juncture. Now, we are talking about a second moveon.org ad, condemning congress. And guess what, I don’t give a shit. Congress has been condemned in my mind for a while now.
The only thing I care about is the progression of getting us out of Iraq. And the only hopeful thing for me this week was the wonderful turnout for Jena 6, thanks to the Afro-Sphere for keeping this story alive and pressure on the MSM for getting on board to cover it.
Oh, BTW, we failed to pass the anti-war bill, or Levin/Reed, that showdown was today. Again, as Scarlett O’Hara has said, "tomorrow is another day", but is it?
