If you want a "people versus the powerful" story:
here it is. And
here too.
With the number of votes to count dwindling, it is clear that community and labor backed Frye is going to win the vote count. - and thus be the first strong mayor of San Diego. So what happens? A challenge to her candidacy to try and throw the entire election out. Talk about ballot access problems:
"Two lawsuits have been filed to invalidate the election on grounds that Frye's write-in candidacy was illegal and should not have been permitted by City Clerk Charles Abdelnour. More suits are expected."
While many people are focusing on the Presidential election - let's be clear that the problems in our election system go much deeper and farther. There is a pervasive habit of simply throwing out ballots or nullifying the results of an election by manipulation. San Diego, the second largest city in California, hangs in the balance here.
It is likely that money will need to be raised for legal actions, and Frye, not connected with big machines, has been people powered from the beginning, often being the lone community vote on the council.
This is a tough one.
