I have just learned that NOW (National Organization FOR Women) is sponsoring a conference, 2008 Economic Justice Summit: Bringing Together Research and Advocacy From Local to Global to Advance Economic Justice and Empowerment for Women:
April 10-12, 2008
Atlanta, Ga.
Sheraton Atlanta Hotel
The Conveners are:
NOW Foundation, Institute for Women's Policy Research, National Council of Negro Women
The purpose of the conference as I see it is to closely examine the present economic status of women internationally from an academic perspective and to propose strategies for gaining economic empowerment for women through economic equality.
Six areas of concerns will be addressed:
Labor, Business, and Global Trade
Family, Community, and Population
Health, Human Security, and Women's Rights
Well-Being and Economic Security
Leadership and Social Change
Voter Mobilization and Civic Engagement
There is a call for research papers and workshop proposals tobe submitted by January 20 at:
http://www.nowfoundation.org/...
For information on Institute for Women's Policy Research see:

And National Council of Negro Women:

I won't be able to attend but I hope some of the KOS regs can mosey themselves over that way to watch, participate and report.
What the conference is covering seems to be pretty comprehensive, but have a look at the six areas and check out the detailed breakdowns of concerns.
