We've all heard the rhetoric, the big talk, the fiery speeches -- but where are the specifics? How do we know you will prosecute fleeing rats of Bush's sinking ship to our satisfaction?
You see, it's not enough to talk about what you're going to do in terms that any reasonable person can understand. We can't trust someone who does not itemize what they are going to do in full detail in each of their speeches. We are not in the business of reading position papers put out by campaigns around here. We want to hear it on TeeVee or at least youtube, and so far, I haven't heard what I need to hear from you, John.
First of all, what kind of prison are you going to send Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Abu Gonzales to? This is important, because America's prison system runs the gamet from executive resorts to those federal penitentiaries you see in the movies to Guantanamo Bay and the secret prisons of Eastern Europe.
I don't want the end of Bush's life playing out like some Paul Newman movie. I don't want documentaries with fellow in-mates giving touching accounts of his "crazy smile" and stone cold poker bluffs. I want solitary confinement. I want to reopen Alcatraz just for the purpose of detaining Bush-related criminals. I want to see Cheney in one of those "oubliette" things like they put Lady Gwenevere in on that Richard Gere Camelot movie.
Second, will you pursue treason charges against Colin Powell? Let's not forget that without Powell, there's no Iraq war. How many people have died because of that lying son of a bitch? Estimates put the number around six hundred thousand, about four thousand of them our own troops. Obviously, there're any number of other charges one could level against Powell, but treason is a deal breaker for me. If you can't deliver on that, Edwards, you can kiss my vote goodbye. Obviously, upon conviction, I expect your Attorney General to lobby for the maximum possible penalty.
Relatedly, would your Administration consider legislation introducing minimum sentencing guidelines for Bush Administration-related crimes? Also, if reopening Alcatraz proves impossible, would you consider a new prison modeled on Bentham's Panopticon, as favored by Michel Foucault? If we have learned nothing else, it's that we must maintain constant vigilance over these people. You let your guard down for one second and BAM! you got another war on your hands.
John, I know you're a good man with a strong sense of justice. You are a man of the people and in your campaign you have shown that you, more than any other candidate, understand the fury of the American people. You understand the seething rage coursing through the veins and arteries of our heartland. You know that the American public will not be content to watch the Bush Regime ride off into the sunset, untroubled by the ruin in which they've left our society. They must pay. There must be accountability. Otherwise, it's just a matter of time before the next crop of Republicans turn up and try the same thing again, unafraid of the consequences that lie down that road, for their country, for their party, and most especially for themselves!
