According to a news report today (see http://www.huffingtonpost.com/... the Clinton campaign is considering tapping its biggest donors to launch an anti-Obama 527. This would be devastating to the party and to the race. It could only help Hillary if she emerges less tarnished from the endeavor than Obama does. The organizations the come up in the report include two unions (the AFT and the AFSCME) and Emily's List. If this course of action bothers you, I recommending letting the unions (if you belong to them) and Emily's List know.

When I wrote, I suggested that going the Swift Boat route on Obama was enourmously irresponsible. It would sully both candidates and weaken the Democrats' chances in November (and thus strengthen the likelihood that a Republican would be making the next round of Supreme Court appointments).
I urged them not only to refrain from participating in an anti-Obama 527, but also to disavow, publicly and credibly, any serious consideration of doing so.
(UPDATE: As TPM reports, all three organizations cited in the article have come forward denying any consideration of a Swift-boating campaign. See http://talkingpointsmemo.com/... I, for one, still think public pressure is valuable here. If there is any fire behind the smoke of the HuffPost article, these organizations need to hear what we think.)
