Skip to main content 20,000, 15,000 votes. Much higher turnout for Dems than Reps. Russert attributed Clinton's win to more independents going for McCain than Obama. I haven't seen the breakdown of ind votes, but just don't believe it. Timmy pulled that out of his a$$. Why no reporting on difference between Dem and Rep turnouts?

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

    why no exit polling?  The polls were so wrong.  I didn't see or hear a single exit poll all day.  I thought we used them in the US to verify whether or not the votes were valid.

    And CNN was going to look at the exit polls AFTER the election.  Was that to make sure that the data was similar?

    Yes.  This is the Bush legacy.  I don't trust voting data as well.

    And if all the independents were going to McCain, why weren't there more votes on the republican side?

    •  I heard plenty of exit polls. . . (0+ / 0-)

      but they reported demographics, not the actual candidate voted for.

      We don't "use them in the US to verify whether or not the votes were valid".  Exit polls are samplings made by the news media and don't constitute a check of the actual votes cast.

    More people voted for Hillary because they liked her better. More people voted for McCain because they liked him better than the other Republicans.

    Simple as that. But the paid talkers on TV have to justify themselves. Worst of all for me tonight were Brian Williams (Limbaugh fan) and Tom Brokaw, who always seems to be on the verge of saying "my favorite comic strip is Glittle GluGlu".

  •  Dem top 3 v repubs (0+ / 0-)

    Hillary vote total is approximately equal to McCain and Hucksters
    Obama's vote total is approximately Rombney's and the Huckster's
    Edwards' vote total is more than Huckster's and 9-11's

    So out top vote getter has as many votes as their #1 and 3 combined
    Our #2 has ss many as their 2 and 3 combined and our #3 ahas as many as their 3 and 4 combined.
    One can argue that they have 6 viable canddiates to our four, but if you look at Richardson + minor votes getters for the dems and compare that to Paul + mnior vote getters for the repubs the difference is only about 4000 more for the repubs.

  •  Independents and McCain. (0+ / 0-)

    Independents may have switched to McCain because they saw Obama's 10 point lead in the polls and in Iowa.

    What would you do if you vote either party?  If I thought the best candidate was secure in one party, I would turn out in the other parties primary to elect their best...(or in the case of the GOP, least-freaking -crazy) candidate.  I think a substantial number of the independents did that in New Hampshire.

  •  look at voter registration in NH (0+ / 0-)

    Dems = 26%
    Repub = 30%
    Ind = 44%

    Now look at vote totals

    Dem = 55%
    Repub = 45%

    Pretty good trend for us.  Either our turnout was MUCH higher, or more Ind voted Dem, or some combination of both.  Any way you look at it, good news.
