'Is it wrong for me to want to smack the shit out the Clinton advisor...'
Andrew Sullivan reader email, Jan 11, 2008
Political Hate Speech I wrote yesterday about 'fantasy-calls for violence in a diary, yesterday. Andrew Sullivan placed this little jewel on his site today:
Is it wrong for me to want to smack the shit out of the Clinton advisor who provided that quote? You would think by the way Hillary barely won in New Hampshire, she'd go the extra mile to make sure that no one in her staff says some asinine comment that can only serve to alienate the very same voters that cost her Iowa. Oh, I forgot, she's become inevitable again.
I'm a 29 year old third generation veteran with plenty of real hip black friends. I pay out the ass in medical insurance. My father died from exposure to Agent Orange. There are plenty of causes for which HRC could latch her boat onto with people like me. Instead, the vile hubris that flows like a river in her camp from the top down has sickened me beyond belief. Hey campaign adviser, I support Obama for his real, tangible principles, you pompous dick.
'Some of my best friends are black, I love Obama and I fucking hate HRC.' Perfect. Are Andrew and his reader Obama's fault? I don't have the answer, but I know there are a few folks here who will tell me to STFU for even asking the question. But that's not my point. Plenty of Obama and Edwards fans here openly confess to hating HRC.
Andrew Sullivan got 400,000 hits the other day. So, sorry, no linky. He's funny and has a razor wit. He's also a bigot, a white supremacist, and a self-confessed Ron Paul supporter. Today he has HRC in his sights. Andrew isn't just fanning the flames, he's practicing pure political terrorism.
Vote for the candidate of your choice, if you dare, and half of America will be so enraged that there will be blood in the street. That's the pure terror Sullivan practices.
Let's just put the shoe on the other foot and see how the misogyny one-step removed plays with a person of color in the polarizing role.
How responsible would it be for a 'respected journalist' who gets 400,000 hits on his website to post an email that described 'smacking the shit' out of a campaign worker for a black candidate who made a claim the reader deemed offensive? Glenn Reynolds and company already have. Reynolds and Goldberg warn of blood in the streets with an Obama defeat, Sullivan issues the same threat for a HRC victory. Two sides of the same terror coin.
Hate speech and fantasy calls for violence are today being directed at HRC. We haven't seen anything yet. Political terrorists like Andrew Sullivan, Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck will be 'printing email' fantasizing about violence no matter who the Dem candidate is. We've seen Andrew and his allies question the patriotism, the courage, the integrity of every single person who had the temerity to voice a contrary opinion.
Sullivan threat is implicit here: vote for Obama or face the rage of all those conditioned by Sullivan and Faux news to howl with hate at the mere mention of the name Clinton. Sullivan isn't threatening just a McCain victory; Sullivan is threatening blood in the streets. We know where this kind of talk leads and Sullivan is pouring gas on the fire. HRC? Think McVeigh, Ruby Ridge, bombings and assassination. Elian!
Andrew Sullivan supports McCain, supports Ron Paul and, currently, supports Obama. The sooner the Obama supporters put some distance between the Andrew Sullivan and the Hillary hating Dems, the more likely I'll take the message of hope seriously.
Somebody better say or do something, cause it won't take too many accusations of racism and sexism on the Dem side before Americans start looking a little more fondly at the Republican field. Four years of this, like the last week? That just might breathe some life into the Republican party.
And wouldn't that break Andrew Sullivan's heart.
