This is what Hillary Clinton said about the Nevada caucuses while her political allies are suing the State Democratic Party for tyring to ensure just that.
Because of the difficulty casino workers would have in getting to their home caucuses, the State Party set up 9 at-large caucus sites near the major casinos. This decision was made during an open process in MARCH 2007. Funny thing: no one had a problem with this until January 9, when the Culinary Workers Union endorsed Barack Obama.
Suddenly, Clinton's allies in the state, led by the leadership of the teacher's union, have a problem with this attempt to HELP MAKE IT EASIER FOR PEOPLE TO VOTE and have filed suit.
On the front page (quite a ways down now), Miss Laura frames this as a dispute between 2 unions, but that is a smokescreen. This is the true brass-knuckles nature of the Clinton campaign coming out for all to see, even while Hillary tries to project her new, softer image as someone who listens to voters (except those she's trying to disenfranchise, of course).
ABC News reports the story here
These are REPUBLICAN voter-suppresion tactics right out of the Bush playbook. Anyone who thinks this suit was filed without Hillary's knowledge and approval, contact me off-line for my lineup of bridges for sale. Hillary even admits her knowledge, which is where the quote in this diary title comes from:
I know about the lawsuit that has been filed and I hope that it can be resolved by the courts and by the state party because obviously we want as many people as possible to be able to participate that is the whole idea.
So Hillary does know and could ask her allies to call this off but somehow chooses not to, since she feels this should be "resolved by the courts" -- even though it was already "resolved" by the Party in an open process 10 months ago!
This is the same Hillary who said the following after the Iowa caucuses, btw:
You have a limited period of time on one day to have your voices heard.... That is troubling to me. You know in a situation of a caucus, people who work during that time -- they're disenfranchised. People who can't be in the state or who are in the military, like the son of the woman who was here who is serving in the Air Force, they cannot be present.
Her concern is touching and about as sincere as her new, softer image. This, of course, comes on top of all the recent revelations about dirty tricks in NH and subtle uses of racism including, most recently, Hillary's own pollster boasting about exploiting the Latino-Black divide.
How ANYONE who considers themselves a progressive Democrat (or even just a Democrat) could support Mrs. Clinton's candidacy is beyond me!
