I have seen some pretty ugly diaries in my time here at DailyKos. I remember the piefighting crap, I remember the circular firing squads. However, right now the ugliness has gotten so bad that I'm sure that there will be some scars left over once the primaries are done.
Follow me over the flip.
Do you remember the scene in the Spike Lee movie Do The Right Thing where you had several of the characters throwing around racist comments? Finally Mr. Senor Love Daddy had had enough, and the camera zooms into his face, as he says...
Yo! Hold up! Time out! Time out! Y'all take a chill. Ya need to cool that shit out... and that's the truth, Ruth.
We seriously need to cool our shit out, to use Mr. Senor Love Daddy's words here.
Ultimately, any Dem in the White House is 1000% better for all of us than a GOoPer in the White House yet again. THIS INCLUDES HILLARY. Who would you rather have at the wheel of the Ship of State: Hillary Clinton or John McCain? Hillary Clinton or Mike "I never met a Dominionist I didn't like" Huckabee? Hillary Clinton or Rudy "911911911911911" Giuliani?
This all said, I'm a John Edwards fan. However, I will stand behind whoever is nominated by the Democratic Party, and I will push. Hard. Because the alternative is REAL BAD. Eight more years of Repugs in the White House will lead to the US being a strong candidate for "failed state" status. Even four more years is way too long. We need a decisive victory in November, because if we don't get that decisive victory, we will have Repugs back in the White House. Guaranteed.
There is reason for optimism. But there is reason for lots and lots and lots of concern. If we keep on tearing each other apart with divisive diaries and infighting we are going to have a hard time hanging together for the General Election. It is OK to disagree about candidates in the primary. It's OK to have strong debate. But it is NOT OK to have this basement level discourse going on, where comparisons are made to wife beaters, crack dealers and so on. Please. Stop this. You're killing us. And that's the truth, Ruth.
