The audacity and double-speak of the DailyKos "progressives" has really caught my ire as of late. Why?
This whole ideologically bankrupt idea of "Vote Republican! Mess with the vote!" in tomorrow's Michigan primary.
I wasn't going to say anything, but the hypocricy and the rabid hysteria of out-of-staters jumping on this bandwagon really grates -- as does most bandwagon jumping at all, for that matter.
Jump into the fold, neh?
In short: stop fucking with my State. Just stop.
Why should you stop?
1. When has DailyKos ever given two whits about Michigan, unless as a National factor?
The only time I've seen Kos frontpage anything about Michigan elections is when it suits the national strategy or it is silly pollwonk. When the State was on pins and needles over the Gubernatorial election (Granholm v. DeVos) in '06, all we got was silly "Granholm is the most endanged Dem Gov incumbent!" wonk with some slight poll results.
Governorships sure didn't matter when we had that fabulous, Congressional "Democratic Wave!" in '06 to worry about, when local elections -- especially for Governors -- impact blue voters (and indies, and even reds!) in titanic ways. Was this election part of the BlueDogDem! ActBlue fundraisers? Was this election ever pressed as important? NO! It just affects one state -- not the entire nation!
But DKos sure was happy to throw Granholm into those several "Governorships" we retained and took, thanks to that glorious "national wave."
Well, perhaps we can worry about Michigan's precious electoral votes! -- or not. I mean, National Elections matter the most, yes? It's all about the top dog, si si? Sure. Break the blue collar Michigan population with this silly fraudulent farce when Michigan has barely been a blue state in national elections, trends red almost throughout, and overwhelmingly banned both gay marriage (You gay faghag-admiring Clintonistas!) and affirmative action (You "black power!" Obamaniacs!) during election years with a Democratic Kerry win and a Democratic Gubernatorial win, when each candidate was against the respective ban of the cycle?
Yeah. Because Michiganians don't know how to split their tickets. We Michigan Dems walk a fine line for you "national good" people, and yet all DKos can do is giggle with assumption that Michigan is always and forever Blue, and just spread the candidate vitrol by pressing people to vote Republican or uncommitted. Sexy. Hope that national agenda of yours works out -- the State agenda is a hard enough battle for those of us here on the ground, thank you.
2. Think I'm ridiculous in claiming that crossing Over to "R" is fraudulent? Why don't we talk about what's really fraudulent.
Yeah, you heard me. Michigan does not have seated delegates. Both Michigan Republicans and Democrats worked to raise the ire of the DNC, and instead it's all about sending some silly media frame over here at the premier liberal community blog?
Whether the DKos "rah rah"-ing about giving the Republicans some election meddling of their own, or the lesser diaries' "Vote Uncommitted to show that HILLARY!" all that shines through is the desire to try and frame the MSM message.
Sure, it has its purposes, but not when you're shouting it from the rooftops. God, if a whole media narrative can be built around Hillary's emotions winning her New Hampshire, you don't think the media will likewise frame either a Hillary-Dem loss or a Romney/Paul-win to something like, oh, pissed off election meddling from that "radical" left?
High voter turnout in Michigan is high voter turnout in Michigan. You encourage people to vote in a meaningless election (no delegates!) just to frame the media narrative? Either anti-Hillary or pro-Whoever-We-Deign-Will-Be-The-Worst-Republican? Smart. Don't educate Democrats that their votes don't matter in Michigan, and encourage them to try and hold their state politicians responsible.
No! Instead, vote to build some goddamn MSM meme. Yeah, and we're in the "reality based" community.
3. Stop pretending to live in your Ivory Tower if it burns you.
This bothers me less than point 2 in which I'd hope sane liberals would actually educate voters on actual ramnifications, but this point is of a larger trend.
In short: screw your "change," "hope," and "bipartisan" memes of-the-day if you're actively preaching a GOTMV (Get Out The Meaningless Vote) just to either say "Screw this Dem!" or "AHAHAHAHA! We'll mess with the Republicans!" If you truly believed your beatified candidate can and will bring people together, shouldn't this effort start at home, eh?
Instead of letting Michigan become the next "Who Cares?" for the Republicans (Wyoming, anyone? Romney won there, too) you want to throw mud from your ivory tower then clutch the same frilly-pillow of "HOPE! CHANGE! BRING THE PEOPLE TOGETHER!"
Yeah. That'll play well in Kansas -- or more importantly, in Michigan -- ever so well.
Michigan's primary is a farce, and rather than uniting Dems over this fact, you still want to GOTV for a media narrative. The same media you say unjustly frames the debate. The same media you despised for saying Hillary Clinton was inevitable. The same media you say neglects Edwards. The same media you charge never gave Richardson/Dodd/Biden/Kucinich/CrazyGravel a chance. The same media you say is sexist toward Hillary. The same media you say is racist toward Obama.
And then you want to detract from that message to court the same MSM media narrative that will probably mean jack all by Nevada?
Girl, please.
So, seriously. Stop screwing my State. These GOTV narratives are all pushed for the wrong reasons, the undemocratic reasons, the completely petty candidate-drumming-MSM-framing reasons.
Michigan was screwed already -- we don't need to take it again from the "progressive" and "reality based" community of DailyKos.
