Hillary was on Power Lunch today (CNBC) to discuss her new economic stimulus package and I thought this might be worth discussing tonight. Voters are saying now that the economy is their number one issue in this election and with good reason. Pundits are saying we’re going to see a recession this year – that’s not news for my family back home in Michigan. As Hillary says in this interview right off the bat – people are hurting. Goddess help you if you lose your job and you’re in your 50s. With few or no jobs out there it’s scary. People lose their jobs, can’t make their mortgage payments and finally just put the house keys in the mail instead of their mortgage payment when the money’s gone.
Hillary gets that and she’s got a plan to help families who’re facing foreclosure and are buried under debt. Take a look...
Make the jump – there’s more...
She also appeared on Bloomberg today – again talking about hew new plan to jump start our economy...
She said something that relates to this urgent need to address our economic mess mentioned in the above clip. The American people need a president who will run the government and manage the economy. Truer words have never been spoken regarding our economy. She’s got a plan and she’s ready to put it into action. It sounds like people are ready to work with her to start to put this plan into place.
Hillary sat down and talked with Brian Williams earlier today and they touched upon something that’s been discussed on the blogs and by all those talking heads out there today. It comes down to a managerial style of each of the candidates out there. Take a look...
A few quotes from that clip...
I was somewhat taken aback about what he said, that was reported yesterday. I think it’s important that we have a president who understands that you have to run the government.
They want a president who they believe gets up every single day and works for them, that requires a president who is hands-on. Who after you set the goals and give the speeches, you go back to the White House and you start holding people accountable and you want to know what they’ve done today to help the American people.
You’ve got to take on this government, you’ve got to run this government, you can’t leave it to others.
Looks like it’s come down to a contest between the hand-off vision vs. the hands-on manager.
Look, we’ve had 7 years with a president who isn’t paying attention to the details – I’m excited at the thought of a president who’ll suit up, show up and get the job done every single day starting on day one, paying attention to the details and knowing who’s doing what at any give moment in this effort.
The economy’s a mess and we need someone who’ll tackle it head-on – paying attention to who’s doing what and is willing to manage things in a way that Dubbya hasn’t been able to do. In a way that Obama doesn’t seem interested in doing.
It was true back then and sadly, after taking office with billions upon billions of dollars in surplus, dubbya’s taken our healthy economy and fecked it up again. Here are some of the main points of her stimulus plan...
Establish a $30 billion Emergency Housing Crisis Fund to assist states and cities mitigate the effects of mounting foreclosures.
Take bold action to stem tide of foreclosure, including a 90-day moratorium on subprime foreclosures and an automatic rate freeze on subprime mortgages of at least five years.
Provide $25 billion in emergency energy assistance for families facing skyrocketing heating bills.
Accelerate $5 billion in energy efficiency and alternative energy investments to jumpstart green collar job growth.
Invest $10 billion in extending and broadening unemployment insurance for those who are struggling to find work.
Hillary’s got a plan to fix things but she still wants to hear from you. Check out her website here, and tell her how this economy is affecting you, your family and your community.
