Not in a general way, as in who would be the best leader. They all will make damn fine leaders and I'd proudly vote for any of them.
I'm talking in a very specific way, and I'm especially speaking to Clinton and Obama supporters, as presumably they're still in the Senate and therefore still have a responsibility to their constituents and the American public.
Who amongst them will loudly and publically stand against Telecom Immunity?
Chris Dodd stood tall, bolstered by the few Senators who still actually give a damn about the Constitution and the rule of law. He's attracted the ire of cowardly aides and undoubtedly has lost some friendships in the Senate for daring to rock the boat. He still needs to hear from us and understand that the American people fully support his actions.
The easiest argument in the world to make against telecom immunity is that the telcos cut off wiretapping surveillance because the FBI didn't pay their bills on time. Such fair weather patriots do not deserve blanket immunity from illegal activities, and Chris Dodd will not give up the fight against that.
Which brings me to the Top Three.
Which of them will stand the tallest? Who will stand shoulder to shoulder with Chris Dodd, fully supporting his filibuster not just with words, but with actions (something sorely lacking last time Dodd stood tall for the rule of law)?
Will any of them? Or will we hear the same excuses we did last time?
"They're in the middle of a Presidential campaign, they can't risk taking time off for a vote."
Edwards has the luxury of not having that problem, but Clinton and Obama have the even bigger luxury of being able to actually ACT on this and SHOW leadership, as opposed to talking about past leadership.
Right now, actions matter; promises for the future--while nice--do not.
We need all three to act however they can. We need Edwards to champion this issue outside of Washington and we need Clinton and Obama INSIDE Washington, standing with Dodd, with Feingold, with Kennedy and the others who believed in rule of law over fat campaign donations.
We all should know how important an issue this is, how important it is to defeat a capitulating FISA bill.
Do the Top Three know that?
