As the House debates the Hope 6 public housing renewal bill I am starting to notice a trend. King, Republican from Iowa, proposes an amendment to remove prevailing wage standards; it fails. I heard Representative Sessions of Texas argue for demolition only permits that allow public housing to be demolished without a commitment to produce new public housing units, he failed. Capito of West Virginia proposed to loosen the green requirement, good news for the world, it failed.
The idea that people vote for these comic book caricature villains would be funny if it weren’t so scary. They talk around the issue to conceal their motivations but it’s like trying to hide a Buick behind a sheet of cellophane. Destroy the homes for the poor, pay the workers a pittance, and let the builders do the job as cheaply as possible, future generations be damned. Even on a slow legislative day the House Republicans are ready to carry the ocean for the wealth aristocracy.
How does a party that behaves so ghoulishly survive in the modern world. The answer is simple. Apathy. The average American doesn’t care what Washington does. It’s uncomfortable to consider how close we all are to poverty. That this legislation may very well determine how we live is not something the average American wants to consider. Even when faced with these facts most shrug and ask "What could I do? " The rest split evenly between taking action and agreeing with the agenda of greed. The latter group still believing in the myth that one day could join the wealth aristocracy.
The whole damn bus is teetering on the edge of the cliff. Our military, our economy, our civil state, are all ready to tip over the edge and into oblivion. Without the security of our liberties and economy and with the Military at the breaking point civil unrest will become inevitable. I hope that unrest comes as a rallying cry that wakes up the leaders of this nation and forces them to the actions necessary to save our nation. Experience with those leaders makes more inclined to believe they would exacerbate the situation by sending in mercenary proxies to pacify the dissidents.
I hope this election becomes a mandate that finally puts to rest the Reaganite ideology that no good can come of the Government, that the commons are a myth and that the only truth is property, and that money and might make right. After all the country eventually decided that the Whigs were too far to the right so I feel I can dream. In the meantime I will no have no shortage of Class War commentary while these clowns hold offices.
