I really don't.
I have a laundry list of things I want to see should a Dem win the White House, just as well all do. I'm not sure I believe any of them, even the horse I'm betting on in the race, can deliver. But one way or the other, I'll vote for the Dem nominee.
You see, to me it doesn't matter who it is. What really matters is that we took a first baby step in 2006 with Congress. We won majorities in both, and while I'll be the first to scream at the top of my lungs that it doesn't seem to have mattered much, it was a first step.
The damage that has been wrought over all these years isn't going to be fixed tomorrow, even if we have a super majority in both Houses and a Dem president.
We have a wingnut Supreme Court and a shitload of bullshit signing statements and precedents that have been set that have to be managed and corrected.
We have a war to end.
We have a global reputation to restore and alliances to rebuild.
We have an environmental crisis that is going to kill this planet if we don't move NOW to fix it.
What we need are more and better Dems.
First comes the more.
Then comes the better.
We're working on the "more" part now. The "better" part will come when the "more" piece is in place.
So I don't care who the Dem nominee is. I will vote for them. And if it turns out they suck, I'll vote for the next one, and the next, until a better one really starts to change this country.
And that's all I have to say about that.
