I really don't have a favorite horse in this race, but I do have a least favorite.
If either Edwards or Obama wins, then that's fine with me, because it gives us a good chance to bring change to the system. So it was kind of tossup for me, when I cast my NM absentee ballot last week.
I ended up voting for Edwards.
What pushed me in his direction was the corporate media blackout. The "he doesn't have a real chance" explanation for this blackout doesn't jibe with their Guilliani coverage.
Now that Obama has laid a crushing defeat upon the Clinton DLC Juggernaut, I find that I have no buyer's remorse.
When I thought about it, I decided that my vote for Edwards can still have a positive effect, even if Edwards doesn't win.
There are some questions about just how progressive Barak Obama is. There are some questions about how well he would address the issues of economic justice that Edwards has raised. I'm not saying this as a slam on Obama, these are just the facts: why else would people be supporting Edwards over Obama?
Ok, there is a nasty reason why a small minority would prefer Edwards over Obama, but I seriously doubt there is a high level of racism in the Democratic Party.
So, to all of you Edwards supporters who are thinking about jumping to Obama, stop for a minute and think about what continued support for Edwards can still accomplish.
If Obama doesn't garner enough votes on his own to take the nomination, then he's going to have to make a deal with either Clinton or Edwards. Assuming that he makes a deal with Edwards, then the more delegates Edwards brings to the table, the more leverage he has with Obama. Assuming that it needs to be done: he can pull Obama into a more progressive trajectory.
Also, assuming Edwards is not the nominee, then I'd like to see him as the AG in an Obama Administration. Thing about it: Edwards as the head of the Dept of Justice.
To my view, the only good reason to abandon Edwards now, is because you believe that Obama will be trailing Clinton in the delegate count. If she's got the most delegates, then she'll probably come out on top in a convention brokered by the Dem establishment....even if the coalition for change has more votes than she does.
But if you think Obama will end up with the most delegates, then voting for Edwards is still a good idea.
