Dr. Harrison is right. Many on this site including myself have said some potentially sophomoric things in defense of political candidates.
So why do I still enjoy to come here? Is it so I can be sophomoric? No. I came and still come here because several years ago this was the only place people were speaking the truth about George Bush's excuse for a presidency and the Iraq war. And I know that despite my differences with the Clinton camp or the Obama camp, we share a common disdain for the way Bush has disgraced the Presidency and our nation.
When John Edwards lost Nevada, I honestly felt like leaving Daily Kos for many of the same reasons. Yet I quickly realized that this is one of the few places where people actively attempt to rectify the ills caused by years of partisan politics culminating in the Bush/Cheney restoration of "honesty to the White House".
Honestly, I don't care who your candidate is, but I do care that you agree with me on fixing this twisted path we are on... we are up to our heads in foreign debt (and foreign oil), we are hemorrhaging multi-collared jobs, our infrastructure is becoming dilapidated or otherwise overwhelmed by nature, corruption and greed have set off a stock market rollercoaster, congressional pork is still flooding Washington and plunging us every further into deficit...
I think we all agree these are things that need to change.
Leaving is only going to make it that much harder for the Daily Kos community to accomplish that change once the primary fog clears.
So don't leave over a stint of childish bickering. After over a decade using the internet, I do not expect online communities to be the example of civility. You're going to find vitriol anywhere on the internets (sic).
I also have to mention... the other night when I posted a diary asking what people here were going to do with their tax rebate, many planned to donate to charities and other good causes. Sometimes you've got to look past the rough surface...
