I see that Senatorial hopeful Tom Allen, now Democratic congressional representative from the first district of Maine, is advertising on this site. While he would be an improvement over his rival Senator Susan Liebercollins, he refuses to act on what he's admitted do look like Impeachable offenses (see letter below), he has yet to live up to his oath of office.
Instead, tonight he'll clap as the Thief-in-Chief pats torture technique witness Nancy Pelosi on the head.
"Good JOB Nancy!" Bush will say.
"You went for this stupid 'stimulus package' hush money scam!
And you didn't impeach me!?"
Tom Allen voted against the war, against some of the funding, and does work (too quietly) on gently pushing for the more Progressive path.
BUT: his refusal to simply put his name behind impeachment hearings makes him UNTRUE to Maine values. Mainers, like most Americans, think the crimes of this administration need to be formally found out, and as Robert Wexler clearly states, we can only overcome claims of "Executive Privilege" in the discovery phase of Impeachment. I'm no lawyer, but it seems the cases have all been made.
The complicity of Nancy Pelosi re: witnessing torture techniques and wanting a war to run against makes her unfit to oppose the Thief-in-Chief.
I recommend everyone only send him cash AFTER he puts his name on the list of courageous, non-blackmailable leaders that are demanding answers and accountability.
Here's the patronizing letter he sends out repeatedly to anyone who dareth mention his failure to live up to his Oath of Office:
October 17, 2007
Dear Mr. X
Thank you for conveying your heartfelt, thoughtful
concerns to me about the conduct of President Bush and his
Administration.
I share your anguish about the direction in which the
President has taken our nation. I believe that it will take years to
repair the damage that this Administration's decisions and actions
have caused to our reputation in the world, to our domestic well-
being, to our civil liberties and to our democratic institutions.
For six years, compliant majorities in both the House and
Senate turned a deaf ear to calls for investigation and oversight of
the President, the Vice President and their staffs and appointees.
Under Democratic leadership, committees in both the House and
Senate have initiated robust inquiries into a wide spectrum of
Administration activities and have held scores of hearings open to
the media and the public. These investigations are holding
Administration officials accountable. They have exposed waste,
fraud and abuse; uncovered improper politicization of science and
justice; and raised troubling questions about the legality of actions
by many Administration officials. They have resulted in important
legislative reforms and the removal of unqualified, ethically
compromised Administration officials.
While I understand your desire for the House to begin
impeachment proceedings against President Bush and Vice
President Cheney, I do not believe this to be in our country's best
interest. It would further divide the nation, dominate the time and
activity of Congress, and frustrate our efforts to bring the troops
home from Iraq. It would take attention away from serious
challenges that we face, including help for the 47 million
Americans without health insurance, relief for the hundreds of
thousands now dealing with foreclosure on their homes, and action
to meet the threat of global climate change.
We serve the American people better, I believe, by moving
forward to resolve the issues that directly affect so many American
families, their hopes and expectations for themselves and their
children.
Again, I am grateful to you for sincerely expressing your
opinion. Please continue to share your views and your concerns
with me.
Sincerely,
Tom Allen
Member of Congress
We the People of the first district of Maine would prefer he consider representing us.
Impeachment: It's not an option: it's an imperative.
