I first voted in 1990 for Ann Richards. In 1992 I voted Clinton-Gore. In 1994 I voted for Ann again when she lost to G.W. Bush. I voted in 1996 for Clinton again. In 1998 I voted for John Sharp. In 2000 I voted for Gore. In 2002 I voted for Tony Sanchez. 2004 I voted for Edwards in the primary and Kerry in the General. In 2006 I voted for Chris Bell.
Lots of futility in those votes, but I am a Democrat because I believe Health Care is a right, not a privilege. That doctors, not bureaucrats, should be able to make medical decisions. When did it come to pass that the measure of a human life was made by the numbers?
I am a Democrat because I believe that government doesn't have all the answers, but it does have some. That business and the markets aren't all powerful, that commerce does need regulation for the benefit of all Americans. We've seen time and time again what happens when companies are allowed to police themselves.
I am a Democrat because I believe in the Right to Organize. That Labor Unions mean something and allow for the many to have a voice against those that would not pay decent wages. The decline of bargaining power I feel has allowed for the concentration of wealth for CEOs and other corporate executives.
I am a Democrat who thinks government has no business telling a woman what to do with her body. There are some choices that are very private and don't need laws making things worse.
I am a Democrat who has seen too many people of late exonerated by DNA testing to ever believe that the Death Penalty is right. The very idea that an innocent might be killed in the name of The People turns my stomach.
I was raised in a Union, Roman Catholic, Hispanic household. I am a gay man. I am a DEMOCRAT.
I will vote for the nominee even if it is not whom I would prefer. Why? Because I've seen what Republican rule has done to the nation. I've seen what Democrats have accomplished since 1933. When we overreach we strive to do what is right for the many. Have there been mistakes? Yes, but the pendulum has swung so far back I feel like we are in the 1920's again.
Yes, I have issues with our current candidates; some are policy based and others are more personal. However, once Democrats as a whole have decided who the nominee will be then I will cast my vote in support of OUR nominee.
I will vote because it is possible that Harris County, the most populous in Texas, might go Democratic for the first time in ages. I want to be a part of that. Who can say what will happen, but I know I will stand up to be heard and counted. I am a Democrat.
