Disclaimer: I am first and foremost a Democrat. I will work long and hard for our nominee and will not hold my nose voting for any of the big three. I live in a divided household - my husband is JRE, and I am Obama. I am so proud of him standing by his candidate. I encourage all of us to respect those decisions. And I hope the HRC and JRE folks are getting out and doing the work for their candidate. This diary is about motivating Obama supporters.
Hillary is going to kick our ass on February 5.
It is really fun to feel this euphoria coming off the dominating win in South Carolina. The massive Ted Kennedy endorsement. It feels good.
Well, get ready to feel bad. Hillary Clinton has mechanisms in place to sweep Super Tuesday. And it is up to US to do whatever we can do to get the word out about Barack Obama.
And what’s cool and hopeful is that we are out there. People are hosting house parties, caucus trainings and phonebanks.
Let’s look at a few graphics.
Obama has two offices in the State of Missouri and one in the State of Kansas. The Kansas City Missouri office opened up in November. They have had nine paid staffers. I was called by the Obama office in December. They called again about two weeks ago. It was pure voter identification - not asking for money.
So what happens when there is no office in your area? Well this is what happens:
That’s right - 137 different events happening within 250 miles of my zip code. Talk about grassroots!
Hillary has nine events in a 100 mile radius of my zip code.
And that whole 50 state strategy thing - well Obama appears to actually believe in it.
Compare to Clinton’s site:
Well then, you ask - why is she going to beat us? As we all know, Clinton has powerful operations. Her ground game in New Hampshire was second to none. Same in Nevada. And those same folks are working in California and New Jersey and New York and Missouri and more.
I am part of two Democratic organizations here in KC. One is an arm of the National Women’s Political Caucus and one is just a general Dem organization. Both of these groups are going hard for HRC. She has loyal and steadfast constituents and lots of the Dem machine on her side. (Although Claire kind of threw that for a loop!)
So what are you going to do?
Some ideas:
- Canvass
- Phone Bank
- Bring food, cleaning supplies, pens & cookies to your local HQ.
- Create an "event" on Barackobama.com.
- Go to an event you find on Barackobama.com
Oh yea - and give him some money.
