John McCain and Mitt Romney do not like each other. Actually, it might be said that they hate each other. Their feud is spilling over into the tradmed, despite the usual reluctance to write anything bad about McCain (they, and everyone else, dislike Romney and have no such reluctance about Willard).
Acrimony in G.O.P. on Eve of Primary
The Republican contest for Florida ended in acrimony on Monday as the two leading candidates traded attacks, aggressively courting voters across the Florida peninsula in a primary battle that could produce a clear front-runner for the party’s presidential nomination before a virtual national primary next week.
This is unfortunate for the tradmed, because it steps on their story line that it's Dems that are always divided, and it's always an opening (or something good) for the GOP. But the enmity in Republican circles is deep and profound. And it's still not clear what fading Huckabee's voters will do... Romney now and McCain never? The same goes for Rudy's voters with Romney.
Meanwhile, Mr. Head of The GOP gave a speech that no one cared about yesterday. And why should they?
Mr. Bush’s approval rating hovers at 29 percent, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll...
And though he declared that the state of the union would remain strong, as tradition obliges presidents to do, only 19 percent of Americans think the country is generally on the right track, as low a number as any recorded.
Pity the GOP voter. They don't like their candidates, they are getting tired of their President, and talk radio keeps yelling at them in betweeen the candidates yelling at each other. Hmmm... it's enough to make a voter vote Democratic. I guess that's why voters keep turning out in record numbers for the contested D primaries. And I can't say I blame them.
