The St. Louis Post Dispatch is reporting that 6-term Republican Congressman Kenny Hulshof will throw his hat into the quickly becoming crowded Republican primary to run for MO governor. Hulshof had been seen as wanting to move on from the House of Representatives for a while now, including a failed bid to get the top job at the University of Missouri system in 2007.
State Representative Judy Baker has already entered the race on the Democratic side, but now that the seat is open folks that follow politics in Missouri suspect the competition might heat up. I would expect this goes as well for the Republicans but have not seen anything on possible Republican candidates for the seat at this time.
This is a 60/40 R leaning district so don't get your hopes up for it turning over in 2008 but it looks like Matt Blunt's decision to be a one term governor continues to pay dividends as a fair share of GOP resources will be sucked up in that primary race this year.
