The original title of this diary was "I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay!" I like offbeat humor and had to figure out how to start this. Since I'm figuring to be blasted to Hell and back I might as well have some fun with it.
Well, I made up my mind a few days ago where my vote was going to go in the primary. Edwards leaving makes it easier - I'm going to vote for Hillary.
I've been pretty angry since late Oct and the McClurkin incident with the Obama campaign in South Carolina and I won't apologize for it. However, there have been numerous reports about how Hillary has acted in the U.S. Senate and that is the woman I want in the Oval Office.
Sen. Clinton has worked across party lines and put her head down and did her homework. She didn't go into the Senate and expect to be a superstar. She won the admiration of Democrats and Republicans alike. Cokie Roberts of ABC News mentioned that again this past weekend. There are the reports of her getting along with Sam Brownback as well as Orrin Hatch. She worked to build consensus on issues and has been described as a workaholic.
Is Hillary a politician; YES, but so what? I'm not a Catholic Cardinal or Archbishop in charge of investigating claims of sainthood. The person I think that can get the government to function competently again is Hillary Clinton. I don't need a rock star, or a preacher in the Oval Office. I want a person very well versed in policy and a technocrat at heart.
I love policy wonks. (Want to make me drool then start by telling me how we rescue the dollar, erase foreign debt obligations, reduce oil dependence , and move towards universal health care. I see all those as interrelated.) I actually want plain competence back in the Oval Office. If she wins the nomination and the general elections I doubt the next four years will be as boring as I want them to be, but either remaining candidate for the Dems will attract a great deal of attention the next four years.
I honestly hope Barack Obama becomes president someday, but in 2008 I am voting for Hillary.
