Per ABC News Jake Tapper
In a long, and interesting speech, he characterized what the U.S. and other industrialized nations need to do to combat global warming this way: "We just have to slow down our economy and cut back our greenhouse gas emissions 'cause we have to save the planet for our grandchildren."
At a time that the nation is worried about a recession is that really the characterization his wife would want him making? "Slow down our economy"?
Per an update in that article the RNC released a statement.
"Senator Clinton’s campaign now says we must ‘slow down the economy’ to stop global warming," said Alex Conant, RNC Spokesman. "Clinton needs to come back to Earth. Her ‘tax-it, spend-it, regulate-it’ attitude would really bring the economy crashing down. No amount of special effects will hide Clinton’s liberal record."
Who would think that slowing down an economy that is already struggling would be a good idea to fight against global warming? Not Bill Clinton. You see this may come as a surprise to some, but the press has a tendency to lie. Not shocked, eh? But how many people here on dkos read the diary title and the opening and accepted it as truth without hesitation?
First the truth.
Per Sadly, No! who deserves the credit for the linkage and explanation, Bill actually was saying that that won't work. Instead we have to get involved in the fight against global warming and it will provide jobs. Just follow the Sadly, No! link to see the full quote with the actually meaning left in tact. I don't really need to get into that here.
We used to have a healthy skepticism of the press here. And some still do. We watched them lie, distort and mislead over and over again. We railed against them in an almost Don Quixote way. But during primary season they seem to be given a pass, especially when they say something negative about the candidate we aren't behind.
There are good reasons to support or not support each candidate. They are all good, but none are perfect. You can talk up your candidate and/or talk down their opponents using facts and the truth. You don't have to resort to the false reports in the media. And when you see a negative article or see a negative piece on television, take a moment to use some common sense. Use your favorite search engine to check out the facts. Also, check out the reporter and see if they have a history of playing fast and loose with the truth. Be a wise consumer of information and you'll be a better advocate for your candidate.
This is the same press. They haven't changed. Have you?
