Let me introduce the editorial board of the Chicago Tribune:
Scott C. Smith
Ann Marie Lipinski
R. Bruce Dold - Editorial Page Editor
George DeLama
James Warren
Timothy J. McNulty
and let me quote what they have to say about John Edwards in an editorial on January 31, 2008. John Edwards, who has driven the conversation in our Party for those who have no or little voice. Here it is in all it's glory:
And John Edwards exits stage left (where else?) having entertained the audience too well: Would Americans ever elect a president who spent two agonizing minutes primping his hair--a tragicomedy enshrined in a YouTube Video set to the lilting "I feel Pretty" - "I feel stunning/and entrancing/ Feel like running and dancing for joy-y-y.
But surely, Xanthe, they went on to at least mention he had addressed the fears of the working and middle class on issues such as health care, globalization/American workers/unions, New Orleans. No, my friends, no. That is it period. That is how The Chicago Tribune characterizes the campaign of John Edwards.
Now they have lovely things to say about Senator Obama and Senator McCain and the usual unpleasantness about Sen Clinton, which I need not point out as they are pointed out daily on DK in much more colorful language.
Neither candidate (McCain/Obama) is the rightful heir to party protocols of succession. Each arrives with a compelling story - with no indebtedness to Republican or Democratic establishments. Neither is mired in the Washington culture of winner take all.
No, nothing here about McCain's continuing call to arms in Iraq. He is seen as a military visionary.
Yes - neither candidate has any political ties to Washington, Illinois or Arizona. They are new born babes.
I can never get used to the way the MSM disrespect its readers. I'll cancel the damn subscription now (big deal). I only bought it because I felt sorry for the kid going door to door selling the Trib. Typical foolish old line Democrat - feeling sympathy for others. When will I get with the program and join the future.
