I have just had one of the best experiences of my life. I was at the Obama for America HQ located in Chicago. I volunteer there on a regular basis and it is always a good experience.
But today..
Today was different.
There were at least 200 people in the phone banking center. The night of the Iowa Caucus there were about 75 people and a host of local and statewide politicians smiling and giving robust endorsements for the camera. It was great I was so excited.
But today...
Today was different.
We ran out of campaign sponsored phones--we used our own phones.
We ran out of desks--we sat at banquet tables and folding chairs.
We ran out of chairs--we sat on the floor.
We ran out of floor space-we stood against the wall.
Today-
We called every potential voter in our data base in one particular state. Like locusts, we did not leave an inch unaffected-we did not leave one person unpersuaded, or undecided.
Today-
We moved as one--sharing our own stories about why we were apart of "this thing" that is bigger than all of us.
We moved as one coaching the young children that came in with their parents to call undecideds and just help out.
Today I fell as one with every single person that knows exactly how I feel about "this thing" that is bigger than all of us.
Today I feel confident that we have our democracy well within in our grasp.
Today I am realizing our awesome potential.
Today was different.
Today-
I was apart of a community of strangers that felt like family.
Today-
I made new friends that I will have for a lifetime.
Today-
The American dream is around the corner.
Today was different.
Yes We Can!
