As an amateur poker and chess fanatic, I am constantly reminded that to win, one must get into the heads of one's opponents, since to know what your opponent is thinking is the key to your own victory.
In this regard, I'm watching the Republican response to Super Tuesday with great interest - What one says in the context of a conservative radio show, in the context of a Fox News broadcast isn't 100% reliable - but enough pieces together can create a better picture.
We know Conservatives do NOT like McCain - Fox News slandered him with the infamous (D) label during his CPAC speech - something I haven't seen since Mark Foley. King Rush and Prince Ann have declared Hillary to be their candidate of choice, and it's no secret that Fox and Roger Ailes have connections to the Clintons. It does seem the Lieberman/Democrats to Mccain/Republicans comparison is accurate. Both are generally shunned as turncoats to the Party.
Now the question is this - what is the reason for this sudden groundswell of support amongst Conservatives for Hillary? - there are two basic ideas I can come up with...
- Conservatives are salivating for Hillary to unite their fractured party behind the Republican Candidate who they are blackmailing into toeing the party line.
- Conservatives consider Hillary to be better for business as usual then McCain. In theory, the rich will always look out for each other, and perhaps they think Hillary will be easy to mold into a nice Moderate Democrat with all bark and no bite.
I spent the better part of a week reading and trying to wrap my brain around the cause for the Right's sudden swell of support for Hillary, but the truth is, whatever the reason, that is not relevant to the end result.
Conservatives look out for their own - damn the majority, I've got mine, you get your own - and by and large, their policies are morally bankrupt and detrimental to the vast majority of Americans and the world. Whatever the cause for the sudden Hillary support from Conservatives, the end result is a desired further concentration of wealth and power in their corner, whether by hook or crook. As Darth Cheney molded GWB into the good neo-con they wanted, so Conservatives will seek to do the same with both McCain and Hillary
So given that, do we play the hand they wish to select for us or do we pick a hand of our own choosing?
