Under the spell of change.
Barack Obama may not be running an "identity" campaign, but he doesn't have to -- the Media are doing it for him.
Though he'd loathe to be lumped in with "them," even Bill Maher's doing it.
On Friday night, Bill's all-white male panel spent most of the show clucking about how America wants to heal itself from racism. That it wants to be a post-racial America. That Barack is the ideal black candidate who can bring America together.
But when Matt Dowd said, "Well, actually, sexism is more prevalent than racism in this country and around the world," the panel fell silent.
Curious.
PJ O'Rourke then made a comment about Hillary's big ass, and the boys club giggled and hissed.
I kept hoping one of them would fucking get real.
The reason why affluent white people dig Obama is because he is JUST LIKE THEM. He's not the "black" candidate at all; he's the half-white candidate that's black enough to make everyone feel like they can expel their racist demons by voting for him.
Society didn't dismiss Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton because they ran campaigns aimed only at black America. It was because JJ and AS are the kind of black men that white America is still terrified of.
