There were whispers yesterday of a possible endorsement from former Senator John Glenn, like this blurb, as well as this one, on Talking Points Memo. TPM drew the following conclusion about the rumor:
If it pans out, that's a major get in a state which is critical to her hopes of turning the narrative of the race in her favor come early March. We're trying to verify, but the Hillary campaign isn't confirming it.
Later in the day, additional news outlets started chiming in, including ABC News, citing sources "close to" the Clinton campaign:
ABC News' Jake Tapper Reports: Sources close to Senator Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign tells ABC News that former astronaut Sen. John Glenn, D-Ohio, will endorse Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, tomorrow in Columbus, Ohio, at 1 pm local time.
Then, last night, we got confirmation from the Columbus Dispatch:
Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York will pick up an endorsement Tuesday from a national hero and Ohio icon — John Glenn.
The former Ohio senator will endorse Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination during a press conference Tuesday afternoon at the Westin Hotel Downtown. Glenn will be joined by Gov. Ted Strickland, who already has endorsed Clinton.
Glenn, 86, served in the U.S. Senate from 1974-98. On Feb. 20, 1962, he became the first American to orbit Earth. On Oct. 29, 1998, Glenn returned to space, at 77, the oldest person to orbit Earth, as a senator joining six astronauts aboard the shuttle Discovery.
And today the campaign itself has spoken, and confirmed the endorsement.
Big Endorsement: In Ohio, former Senator John Glenn will today endorse Hillary at a press conference with Governor Ted Strickland in Columbus.
