I was a little worried about turnout, as my polling place at 7:30 this morning had a slightly longer line than usual, but nothing extraordinary. And a number of people have posted reports of low turnout in their precincts. But an overall view in a Washington Post article is showing a different story:
Voters across Maryland, the District and Virginia showed up all morning in large numbers to vote in the first-ever "Potomac Primary," eager to become part of one of the most closely contested and historic presidential races ever.
Although regionwide numbers were not available during the day, visits to polling stations in the District and its suburbs, and interviews with elections officials, indicated that turnout so far has been unusually high for a presidential primary.
In at least one VA polling place they were already thinking of calling a judge to ask for permission to stay open later than 7pm.
And some people are making up their minds as they step up to the machine.
Monica Stassen, 34, wheeled her one-year old son in his stroller up to the voting booth at Cora Kelly Recreation Center in the diverse Del Ray neighborhood and still wavered. Then she voted for Obama.

Nearby at the Chinquapin Recreation Center, Rachelle Thompson, 37, was likewise unsure. A registered Republican, she considers herself moderate to conservative. But because of Virginia's open primary system, she was able to vote across party lines.
"I came here today intending to vote for Huckabee, and I ended up voting for Obama,"
