I'm just amazed that any union, union member or blue collar worker would for one second consider the Clinton's as some kind of benefactor. What have the Clintons done for blue collar America?
How about NAFTA? How many jobs (once good paying labor jobs) from the 90's are now being performed overseas by a sweat shop laborer?
Parts for your car, your washing machine, your microwave. Those jeans you're wearing, that shirt, those socks. You tell me working class America, what percentage of products that you buy have the Made In America label? A hell of a lot fewer thanks 27 straight years of deregulation.
And it's not just factory jobs that people should be thinking about when it comes to the Clinton legacy.
Coming from personal experience, the absolute worst aspect of America's love affair with the Clinton's was their decision to deregulate the media.
The Clinton's began that avalanche with the Telecommunication Act of 1996.
Has our media improved since then? Who here thinks higher ownership caps and elimination of the cross ownership rules is a good thing? If you're not sure let me give you some first-hand perspective to clarify it for you in terms everyone here can appreciate.
I work for at a newspaper owned by a mid-sized media conglomerate. This company owns over 20 mid to large-size circulation papers and about the same number of television stations.
Our paper is required to endorse the Republican candidate for the 2008 Presidency. This decision is made by the corporate board 350 miles away.
Let me repeat that. Our paper is REQUIRED to endorse the Republican candidate for president. The editorial board is comprised of three members handpicked by the corporate board. There is no discussion. There is no research. The nominee is irrelevant. The edict has already been handed down.
Fifteen years ago this paper was owned locally. Now, maybe that owner would have still chosen to endorse a Republican, but at least the decision would have been made by someone that actually lives and works in the community.
And what happens to a journalist that dares speak out in support of diversity, localism or the public interest? A fast track to the unemployment line. Welcome to the Clinton love child of labor friendly journalism.
So explain it to me supporters of Clinton. Just how exactly has labor been served by the Clintons? Explain to us how making a pair of Levis in China benefits the average blue collar American. Explain to me, as a journalist, how the Clintons have increased diversity and localism in the media?
Blue collar Americans for Clinton? Not this American.
