Boo hoo!
Republicans are outraged. Democrats are putting forward a resolution holding White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten and former White House Counsel Harriet Miers in contempt of Congress. House GOP rank-and-file are planning a dramatic walk out when the vote is called.
We'll see.
Go ahead and walk out. Leave us with a quorum and no Republicans around.
Contempt vote expected shortly.
One other note from the same report, and noted in the earlier contempt thread:
Right in the middle of the Statuary Hall service for the late Tom Lantos, a Republican [Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-FL)] went to the floor -- just steps from the solemn proceedings -- and called a procedural vote, apparently out of pique.
Niiiiiice.
UPDATE: Here we go! Tune in for some rare theatrics, including jeering and laughter on the floor.
Buh-bye!
UPDATE 2:
Q: What's for lunch in the House cafeteria today?
A: Chicken.
UPDATE 3: Stupid stunt backfiring? There aren't enough Republicans in the chamber to sufficiently second a demand for a recorded vote on the previous question passage of the rule. Duh!
UPDATE 4: Someone must've gotten their cardio in, by hustling back in to put enough bodies on the floor to get their vote. Without enough people standing up to request a recorded vote, the Dems could have passed this on voice vote. But someone made it back in there, and in fact, the Speaker was kind enough to wait for them.
UPDATE 5: It's over. Contempt passes. 223-32-1.
UPDATE 6: The three Republican votes in favor of the resolution: Wayne Gilchrest, just primaried out in Maryland on Tuesday; Walter Jones, "Freedom Fries" turned apologetic war opponent; and... Ron Paul.
