Inspired by the Kos dairy: OH-02: "Jean Schmidt is about to Implode" by user oaksmarts. Very impressive, thanks for the inspiration.
For ten, yes ten, long years, Republican Congressman Lee Terry has misrepresented the people of Nebraska's Second Congressional District -- the people of my Congressional District. Nebraska's Second district is in play, last cycle Democratic challenger Jim Esch came close to beating Terry but feel short. Prior to 2006, no challenger had even come close to Terry. The Second District is ready for change, but we need your help. 2008 is poised to be the year where we defeat the boy Congressman and put a real leader in Washington.
2006:
Lee Terry (R) 55%
Jim Esch (D) 45%
This cycle, Jim will not seeking the seat. But an even better candidate has emerged. Richard N. Carter is a U.S. Air Force Reserve Captain with active duty combat experience in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He announced Saturday in front of the Sarpy County, Nebraska Democratic caucus:
"With all of the problems that we face, it would have been easy for us to throw our hands up in disgust, to become cynical, to withdraw from the political process. But all of us here today have refused to do that. We know there is too much at stake for us to sit on the sidelines. It is time for a new generation of leadership to step forward - and actually lead. Therefore, I, Richard Carter, declare my candidacy for the United States Congress!"
Richard is a smart, articulate Democrat who has a real shot at beating Lee Terry in November. More importanly, he is willing to take up the banner of Democrat in a red state where the word Democrat can often be a curse word.
This seat had not had a Democrat in it for a decade and a half when the honorable Paul Hoagland served. He recently passed away and I think, in his honor, we should work to take back his seat.
Behold Lee Terry's record:
- Voting against SCHIP everytime - perpetrated lies on the legislation in various public settings.
- Almost got into a fist fight with Jesse Jackson Jr over nonsense.
- Used tax payer money to send out expensive campaign literature under the guise of legislative alerts.
- Continues the false premise, as recent as last year, that Iraq was a threat to the United States and was involved in the attacks on 9/11.
- Denouncing the Tom Delay but taking money from his PAC.
- Consistantly doing what he is told and failing to provide the kind of independent leadership the people of Nebraska deserve.
Nebraskans deserve a real choice in 2008 - this is our time! Which is why I ask you help out the Carter campaign. Terry has raised over
$500,000. Carter is just getting starting and we need to help him get his message out.
Click here to donate through our ActBlue page. All money goes to the Carter campaign. This seat is in play -- help us take it back -- not just for the Democratic Party, but for the people of Nebraska!
If you can not donate then please recommend this post so others can see it and tell your friends who can help. We have set a modest goal to raise $500 by the May primary. Let's do it!
