Wayne Gilchrest (R-MD) Loses Primary Fight
The Liars Win Again
Wayne Gilchrest has served honorably representing the First Congressional District of Maryland. I don't often vote for Republicans, but he was one that I did. The Democrats have, in the past, put up candidates who were anemic at best. While I didn't always agree with Mr. Gilchrest, I knew that he voted his conscience and he DID listen. I wrote him several times about the Iraq War. One of the reasons he was defeated was that he voted against the war. Recently he also voted against the FISA Bill. At least he's going to go out in style! He was also a champion of the Chesapeake Bay and an environmentalist - a rarity in Republican circles. He didn't take PAC money. His strongest challenger, Harris, had over a million dollars. Gilchrest had half that. He lost but lost honorably. Unfortunately, I don't think the Democrat has a chance in this district unless he runs a much stronger campaign than challengers have in the past. I don't plan to be here much longer so I don't care as much as I did in the past. I live in an area that gives Bush as much as an 80% approval rating according to something I read recently. I can't figure these people out but at this point I just want out myself.
