The opening paragraph on kos' front page post poses a question, but it's not the question I wanted to see asked.
Tonight, we at Blue Majority are asking our readers on Daily Kos, Open Left, and Swing State Project a simple question: should we endorse in the Democratic presidential nomination campaign tomorrow, or should we wait until the nominee is certain?
What I would like to see addressed is whether or not Daily Kos should endorse a candidate.
Back when Richardson was in the race and I was an active supporter I was constantly surprised that. while it was obvious that John Edwards was the candidate that most closely represented the ideals of many progressive websites as a whole, there was what I considered a very hands-off approach towards web-sites endorsing him as an official and public declaration.
To say that I considered this a sign of weakness is an understatement. If the goal is to elect not only more Democrats, but BETTER DEMOCRATS, then declare yourself when candidates come along that fit the ticket.
Whether it was the "Dean Factor" of not wanting to commit to something that might not be a sure winner, or something else, I don't know, I don't pretend to know. I do know that support that could have made a difference for a progressive candidate was denied.
The question that interests me is should DKos endorse now?
To say "Wait until after this battle is over" is to say "Don't endorse" because any endorsement that comes after the battles are fought is an act of cowardice. It means you could not bring yourself to advocate for what you think is best for the nation, you didn't want to get dirty, you'll take that waiver from the draft board, thank you very much.
Sooo..and I understand there are rational arguments for both sides the question is:
"Should DKos make an endorsement now in the Presidential Race?"
