When the first slew of Obama is a secret Muslim e-mails came to my inbox, I was not surprised. That one in particular came from an African American schoolteacher responsible for nurturing and inspiring critical thinking in middle school students was disconcerting and a bit sad.
My friend that sent this e-mail in particular typifies the category of Republican Because Someone Demonized Democrats or RBSDD. Oftentimes, this group of African Americans are also religious and have been convinced that Democrats are infant killers and usurpers of God's authority with their cloning, AKA stem cell research. This group tends to be secretive, my sister recently confiding to my mother that she voted for Bush twice, being one such example.
However, when my father-in-law sent the latest e-mail disguised as information on the Antichrist and Oprah Winfrey and then swung at Obama in closing, I had to admit that he didn't fit the profile. So why are these black people sending me Obama e-mail?
I received the latest e-mail yesterday from my father-in-law. A hard-working, African American retiree from southern Illinois, he worked with some of the toughest, hard-shelled high school students in East St. Louis. Characterized as mean but fair by grown men I have met in recent years, he sought to instill in those students that they were in charge of their destinies.
It had no subject line so I believed it to be a personal message from him to me. The first line however I thought, said it all.
"Oprah and Friends" to teach course on New Age Christ
There's no Obama in that; I should be safe to read it without more Barack vitrol, right? I continued.
Oprah Winfrey,
> beginning January 1, 2008, on her daily radio program will offer
> a year-long
> course on the New Age Christ , in a lesson a day and completely
> cover the
> 365 lessons from the Course in Miracles "Workbook."
Come on really. A Course in Miracles. I have that book; think I'll take it to Starbucks with me and read a few pages. Yada, yada, yada. New Age christ will make "huge inroads into the world with the help of the queen of television talk shows," yada, yada.
It didn't surprise me that my father-in-law would send me that type of e-mail. He sends me the missing children that ain't missing e-mail, the 'if you love Jesus' e-mail and the 'Starbucks hates our troops' e-mail. Sometimes I send a debunking link, mostly just delete.
The e-mail goes on to say that the book is written by a woman who heard from some "Jesus" in 1965 through channeling, she transcribed it, Oprah loves it, Wayne Dyer loves it and some TV minister loves it too. She then quotes a few blasphemes from the book, gives a Bible verse warning of things we will witness in the last days and in conclusion:
It's not surprising at all that Oprah
> Winfrey is supporting Barak Obama!!!
> Christians.....Take
> heed!!
I had a Lewis Black moment complete with scowl, teeth gritting and a "what the f*^$?" How did we get from 'I love Jesus' to this. Oh, I get it. I am to apply mathematical logic:
Barack Obama is a secret Muslim and Oprah supports Obama therefore she must be a secret Muslim. As such, the Muslims agenda is to undermine the Christians. So, Oprah has taken a blood oath with the New Agers to gang up on Christianity and once defeated they fight the Muslims in a caged death match for world supremacy.
A diarist a few months ago addressed blacks, self-hatred and lack of support for Barack Obama. For all of my friends revealing themselves as such, I leave you with this:
"When you control a man's thinking you do not have to worry about his actions. You do not have to tell him not to stand here or go yonder. He will find his 'proper place' and will stay in it. You do not need to send him to the back door. He will go without being told. In fact, if there is no back door, he will cut one for his special benefit. His education makes it necessary."
