Congressman Darell Issa (R-CA) may have a point that the congressional hearings on steroids in baseball were a circus show, but he's wrong that the silliness of the hearings excuses perjury.
"Ask yourself, what purpose we served by knowing that one person lied about their use of steroids, what purpose that serves."
Issa said he didn't doubt that Clemens had perjured himself, but felt that the lies may not have been material to the larger issue of baseball's steroid epidemic - the original justification of the probe.
So now it's OK to commit perjury as long as it's not about an earth-shattering issue an isn't part of the original topic? Really?
There are a few Republican Congresspeople who need to have a talk with Issa after the shit they pulled on the country 10 years ago. Back then they impeached President Bill Clinton for lying under oath about whether he cheated on his wife, an issue that was completely unrelated to the lawsuit he was being deposed for.
But then it was a constitutional crisis, a disaster for the country.
Now, with Republican hero Roger Clemens as the perjurer, it's OK.
I guess 9/11 changed everything, and made it OK to lie under oath as long as you are fighting the War on Terra. Bush and the Republicans have made it clear that the administration and its friends have no fear of Congress, going so far as to refuse to allow the Justice Department to investigate any charges Congress levels about administration lies!
But that's OK, because the lies have nothing to do with the only topic in the world of Bush: brush clearing.
